Zoey

Tonight we are sad to tell you of the passing of our beloved Zoey.

Zoey's health had been deteriorating over the past couple of years. She even spent a long weekend in the kitty hospital in Sept. 2009. Her health had recently changed for the worse and we were contemplating her final days/weeks.

She had been diagnosed with kidney disease and inflammatory bowel disease. We were worried that she would not be coming home with us that Sept. 2009, but we were lucky enough to have her for another 14+ months.

Zoey came to us June 1996. She came to us via a friend of Kris' parents.

Zoey and Domino, normally rivals, found a moment of zen on the faux sheep skin under the Fall sun this morning. We must admit the draw was partially staged as under the sea green towel is a microwavable heat disk that is keeping the kitties toasty warm. If only we knew this was all it took to strengthen their friendship!

Zoey continues to receive subcutaneous every other day and it has kept her healthy. In addition to the fluids, we've had to bathe her a bit more frequently because excrement is sticking to her hind quarters. Here is a picture of her after her most recent bath drying off in front of the fireplace.

On Saturday, September 5, Jim noticed Zoey stumbling around as her hind legs consistently gave out on her. She still seemed well and alert and wanted to move around, but unable to get very far. We feared the worst and after some quick Google searches called the emergency vet and got her there as quick as we could.

A vet tech followed by a veterinarian were able to see her quickly. The ruled out stroke and instead concluded it was dehydration and her kidneys not properly getting toxins out of her system.

They admitted her and got her on an IV for fluids and antibiotics.
